Happy Halloween!!!

Well it is the day, hopefully no one gets to big of a sugar rush today / tonight!

Our monsters have been coming along nicely and the finishing touches are being put on them. Here is one of them, not sure of the name at the moment but it will be coming today.

Almost made it to Halloween! Our monsters are almost done should be posting new pics and have our critters up for October 31st. The students are really working hard to get them done. This Monday is the Fall Dance, it runs from 2pm until 4:30pm tickets are $4 dollars and can be paid in class to Mr. Smith.

FYI Red Deer College Kings basketball is in action tonight wit hour home opener against Grant MacEwan University. Its gonna be a great game so come on out and support us.

Back in Action.

Just want to send out a big thank you to Mrs Stafford for coming in and working with everyone while I was away. We really appreciated the help ;)

I will be away from the class both days but will be reading my email in the evening if anyone needs to get a message to me. Students will continue to work on course material, and we will be covering a new current events story on the US Elections with a short quiz to complement it.

Summer is Gone!!!

Good Morning Everyone,

Well it appears all of our warm weather is gone :( and winter is starting to settle in! Last Friday was our first day at the Power of Youth, and it was a great success, we look forward to continuing our visits there up until the December break. We have lots going on this week and I will be letting everyone know whats happening as the week progresses.

Monday Monday

Welcome back everyone. Today we started chapter 5 in The Hobbit.

Also just a reminder that the forms that got sent out last week for the Power of Youth  need to be handed back to Mr. Smith tomorrow please

Hey Everybody, Last day of the week for students

Just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend there is an assignment going home to be completed for Monday. This is for the students Novel Study, they are to use the Internet and other sources of media and technology to research different races, and types of characters found in the Hobbit Novel.

Also there are some forms being brought home fir the parents:
1) News Letter

2) Parent Teacher conferences information

3) Consent form for Ventures to be filled out and returned to Mr. Smith Monday AM

The Monsters are Coming!!!

So in preparation for Halloween we have decided to start a new project where the students will be combining some of their classes and curriculum in to a collaborative project. We are creating MONSTERS. That's right each student has started to create their own unique monster, and will have complimentary assignments in Science and Language Arts to complete as a part of this process.

The student seem very excited about this so please ask them questions and stay tuned to the blog for more updates, as we plan to document the process of bringing these creatures to life :)

This is one pic of the creation of a sea creature that will soon be brought to life. The tools used to start this process are a simple garbage can, coffee tin and some packing tape, and one students imagination!!! watch for more to come soon...

Curretn Events Quiz tomorrow on "Where has our Game Gone"

There will be a 5 question multiple choice quiz tomorrow covering the current events topic on "Where has Our Game Gone" which deals with the NHL Player Lock Out. This news article can be found under the current events tab, and in the October issue, pages 9 to 11.

Hope everyone had a great long weekend.

Just a short heads up as to what is happening in Ventures. Today we will be going over a new current events storey and looking at the NHL Lock Out. We will also be reading chapter 5 in the Hobbit and discussing riddles, then trying to come up with our own riddles as well. We will also be starting a new Halloween project today that will involve both  Science and LA components to it.

I am pleased to announce that we have started reading the Hobbit Novel in class. Today we finished Chapter One, and answered some general questions about the information we lerned. You may find a Hobbit Link at the top Which will hold the work we are completing in class with regards to the novel.
