HOBBIT NOVEL STUDY!!!

Hey Everyone,

Today we are starting the novel the HOBBIT by JR Tolkien. We will be doing various activities with the students through out this time and, when the novel is finished we plan on watching the original animated film version, with the hopes of seeing the new 2012 version later when it is released.

Ask your kids what their HOBBIT name is!!!!

Crazy hair day!!!

Tomorrow is crazy hair day at central middle! So come with your wackiest hair do !  We will also have a quiz on Syria, so parents you can review with your kids at home tonight if you would like to, all of content for the quiz is on line under the current events tab at the top of the blog.

We will also be starting our novel study tomorrow. We will be reading The Hobbit, by J.R. Tolkien.

Just a heads up, I have added links to the websites of Quizlets, and Khan Academy. All you have to do is click on the tabs above form this home page and it will take you straight there. The students have been doing a great job with these sites and are really enjoying them. Please check them out with your children and have fun, get them to show you how they are using the websites.

I am tyring to upload new materials so that the students and parents will have access to them at home. this will help I hope with any home work and for parents to take a look at we there children are studying in school. Khan Academy Website

Parents, just to keep everyone in the loop ask your kids about what we are doing with math in the Ventures room. We have started a test drive of the Khan Academy Website. From here they can practise math concepts they are learning in class and get extra practise while having fun. They are able to work towards certain goals for each concept and gain on line rewards for their accomplishments. They can access this from home also!

Good Morning Everyone,

Just a reminder that the Dawe Run is this Tuesday, and for the afternoon there will be a substitute teacher in for me. I will be letting the students know this today, and go over what will be happening during that time. The same substitute will also be in this Friday Sept 21st.

Quizlet !!! A great online learning tool!

Good Morning Everyone,

I just heard of a great on line learning tool we will be trying out today in class, it is the Quizlet website. Here we will be using it for now to assist the students with creating vocabulary lists from their various subjects. Its a great tool and parents it also allows you to check and see some of the work your kids are doing, and can even participate with them at home. From here you can spend a few minutes going through vocabulary flash cards with your kids and if they didn't do their chores you can even create an on line test at the click of a button lol. It is very easy so join in the learning with your kids so just ask them, or me. Have some fun with it.

Literacy Class / Reading Material

Good Morning Everyone,

We are currently running a literacy class where the students will have the opportunity to read many and varied texts. Some texts will be self selected, and should be at a level which the the student can comfortably read on their own to allow for practise and integrate strategies learnt in Language Arts. I would encourage you to talk with your children and assist them with the selection of reading material.

Terry Fox Run

Central Middle School will be participating in the Terry Fox Run on October 15th. Students may drop off toonies to their home room class to help support the fundraiser.

Just a short FYI that picture day will be at Central Middle School Friday September 14th, 2012!
Please don't send money on picture day, you will be able to preview before you buy.

A flyer will be sent home with all students form the Venture Program today, and will need to be filled out and returned to the school on Picture day. The flyer will explain everything else you need to know!

Awesome First Day

Hi everybody! Just wanted to say we had a great first day in Ventures, here are a few things to think about for tomorrow.

Students please remember what your options classes are that we got you signed up for today. Also would be a good idea to have a change of clothes for your physed classes handy.

Reminder that if you need a bus pass you can get them in the office before school, after school or at lunch.

Anbody coming out for the cross country running team we have our first practice tomorrow, meet outside Mrs. Adams room at 3:05pm it is upstairs room #208. Remember you need to sign in and out when we goo for the run.
